Frequently Asked Questions
Service Providers:
Is JANvertise really free to use?
Yes — there are no sign-up fees, subscription costs, or lead charges. We’re here to support small and local businesses in our communities.
I created a profile — why isn’t my service showing?
Profiles aren’t shown publicly. You’ll need to add a listing with your full service details for it to appear in search results.
How do I post my listing?
Once logged in, click the “+” icon (on mobile or tablet) or “Add Listing” (on a computer). This will take you to the listing form, where you can add your service description, images, and coverage area etc.
Can I edit my listing later?
Absolutely — just log in any time to update your information.
Do I need to show my full address?
No. We recommend adding the first 3–4 characters of your postcode (e.g., “E15”) or your specific town or area (e.g., “Stratford, London”). Please don’t just put “London” — this helps clients find services near them more easily.
Do you only advertise cleaning, caregiving, and food services?
Yes — for now. We hope to expand in the future and recognise that there are many excellent home-based services out there.
Can I list more than one service?
Yes — feel free to create separate listings if you offer more than one type of service.
Is a DBS recommended?
Highly recommended, especially if you’re working in someone’s home. It builds trust with potential clients.
Is a food hygiene certificate recommended?
Yes — if you cook or bake from home, a food hygiene certificate builds trust. More info can be found here: Turn your love for food into a tasty income.
Do I need to be registered with my local council
Yes — this is a legal requirement if you’re preparing or selling food to the public, even from home. More info can be found here: Turn your love for food into a tasty income.
Clients:
How do I find a cleaner, carer, or cook?
Just head to the search bar, choose a category, and enter your area. You’ll see a list of available services near you.
How do I contact services providers?
Each listing includes at least one contact method — usually email, WhatsApp, or telephone.
Are service providers verified?
No — JANvertise does not currently vet or verify providers. We’re a platform that helps you connect directly with local services. We recommend asking questions, checking references, and requesting proof of qualifications (like a DBS or Food Hygiene Certificate) where appropriate.
Which providers should have a DBS check?
Anyone working in your home — especially with vulnerable people such as the elderly — should ideally have a DBS check. It’s highly recommended to hire cleaners, carers, or companions who can provide a valid DBS certificate. This helps build trust and adds an extra layer of reassurance for you and your loved ones
Do food service providers need to be registered with their local council?
Yes — it is a legal requirement. After registration, their food preparation premises will be inspected by an Environmental Health Officer (EHO), and they will be issued a hygiene rating from 0 to 5.
Do Food service providers need a Food Hygiene Certificate?
Food Hygiene Certificate shows that a provider has completed training in safe food handling. While it’s not legally required, it’s strongly recommended — especially for anyone preparing food from home. Most responsible providers choose to take a short online course (usually Level 2) before registering their food business with the local council. It’s a good sign that they take food safety seriously
Can i leave a review?
Yes, and we encourage it! Reviews help others choose the right provider. You’ll need to sign in to leave one.
